Becoming engaged at any level of politics seems to imply a paradox:  either stay within the social media bubble, where the posts and groups are heavily curated, or venture into the wilderness of political organizing and become involved in a movement of people with whom you do not 100% agree with. The former is comfortable but feels ineffective , while the latter seems to be an uncomfortable compromising of your values.

The Poster Factory, founded in and operated out of the University of Minnesota’s art department in the early 1970s, demonstrates that not all political spaces need to, nor should, be ideologically pure.  Students, faculty, and guests alike printed posters addressing the Vietnam conflict, environmental concerns, and racial divides. Singular common ground (concern over the Nixon administration) brought artists together into a space in which they addressed their own beliefs, debated against others, and form a coalition, not an echo chamber.
