Fall of 2017 Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. was flooded with #metoo. This #metoo takeover of social media was spurred on by an effort to counter sexual assault and sexual abuse within society. To show support and counter the norms of sexual abuse people began simply posting #metoo or included #metoo in their posts. This use of this hashtag created an interweb counterpublic via social media. In a literal sense, the use of this hashtag grouped all these posts and people together from across the country. This was so crucial to the movement because it allowed it to formulate into a visible force countering sexual abuse. Rather than a single person or a small group trying to counter the dominant power that 1. Perpetuates sexual misconduct culture and 2. Keeps victims from speaking,  #metoo became a voice for those who have been victims of sexual abuse or who want to stand up against the power of sexual abuse.
