This performance was to protest the countless women in Guatemala who are subjected to cruel and inhumane violence. Her goal was to bring awareness to Guatemala’s long history of ignoring the lives of women, specifically indigenous women, who are often left brutally tortured with the word “perra” also scraped into their flesh. Although she was calm throughout, it is until she reaches the last letter that her composure falters and she hesitates to finish. She continues knowing that the pain she is feeling is by her own volition, but that is not the case for those she is advocating for. Galindo offered her body and pain, as she has done in many of her works, as a physical marking of her undying efforts to never let those who cannot speak anymore from staying silent. A work that she performed by herself, but the ramification of her protest did not go unnoticed by many.
