Public Fruit Jams

on

What happens when there are no instructions, not guidelines, no regulation, and the public is invited to bring fresh fruit into a gallery? Jam is made. Fallen Fruit invites the public to collaborate and make Jam in their Public Fruit Jams art piece. Within this participatory art practice, participants are given no guidelines and no recipe, they are supposed to collaborate with each other and make jam with what they have. What is democratic about this piece is that there is no specific outcome goal and no ‘right’ way to participate. This exchange creates relations and causes people to not simply interact with each other but work together and work out solutions to make Jam. Not only are unfamiliar faces brought in to a conversation with each other but are also asked to complete a task. Each individual enters the space with a different idea or a different contribution, a different method, and a different end goal.
