Imagine seeing, stopped at a red light, an art gallery on wheels. The Peripatetic is a mobile gallery that occupies the streets, rather than an institutionalized museum setting. Its director, David Lefkowitz, built the scale model gallery with wheels so that the exhibitions can travel and reach audiences who may not approach a traditional museum. Because of the small scale, in order to see the art in the gallery viewers must get up close to the Peripatetic; one must actively engage with the gallery in order to experience any part of it. For one day only from 9am to 7pm on May 21^st, 2016, the Peripatetic Gallery exhibited northfield is an abstraction throughout the town of Northfield, Minnesota. Lefkowitz and helpers who carted the gallery around invited those curious enough to use an instant film camera to take an abstract photograph of the area around them. Every photograph was either displayed on the gallery’s walls or put into the attached storage facility. Those who wanted to visit the gallery had to take to the streets and walk around town in order to find it, rather than wait for it to present itself.
