First shown at Art Basel Miami, this work by the Guerilla Girls does not hide behind paint and brushstroke to evoke a powerful and very needed message about the art world. This work is the very definition of what is and is not democratic art. Guerilla Girls succinctly define that art in museums should not be seen as the best of art, but a grouping of the most popular artists to be lucky enough to display their work. They make the very true claim that the vicious cycle of “wealth and power” is only preserved by museums that fail to incorporate diverse artworks from a diverse group of artists. This poster informs the public about the dangers of the art world, by facing it head-on. It gives validity to artists whose works may not be in museums but are just as worthy of recognition.
