Colonization never ended. People just accepted the new reality. This post-apocalyptic world for many indigenous communities became the new rational. It is common practice for economic decisions in many Latin America countries to be made by a few elites in power with supranational corporations. The result is a widening wealth gap, ravishing the natural environment for resources, and an overall lack of infrastructural development. How can a community, a country, a region of the world address a problem when no one is naming what exactly the issue is? The Beehive Collective steps in to do just that. They act as contemporary historians documenting through imagery the stories of disenfranchised communities in a global context. The drawings and prints are freely shared for educational purposes with collaborators and at Beehive events. “Mesoamerica Resiste,” is a nine-year effort to understand the effects of globalized neoliberal capitalist corporations in Central America. The hope is the growing educational conversations will spur grassroots movements across the Americas.
