The notion of inclusion is increasingly important in social movements these days. Creating platforms for all people to be heard rather than just for those privileged enough to speak their minds has become a major concern. Exclusion is one of the biggest critiques of social movements, especially the exclusion of those who are underrepresented in this country. The recently discovered photographer, Bev Grant took to documenting the social movements of late 60s that she took part in. From The Miss America Pageant Protest to the Poor People’s Campaign, Grant captured the diversity of these movements. Her images highlight the shared struggles and life experiences of diverse people and their efforts to combat injustice together. Many of the protests took place in neighborhoods where diverse groups of neighbors were brought together because of a shared inequality. While the subjects of her images are considered historical, many of those injustices are still present in social movements today.
