Eulogy, Harriet Bart, 2011

on

The clash of the politics of nationalism and theology results in the audience’s realization that war is fueled by much more than a defense strategy. A war-torn military bag with the American flag that is uncannily akin to a prayer rug, and religious texts alongside, this work is protesting the blatant disregard for the loss of lives on both sides for ideals that they themselves have not even fully committed to. This is a fight against wars that kill people for no concrete reason, only to show the machismo of the more privileged countries. Harriet Bart is calling on all to remember that wars should not be waged over something so delicate and fragile as life because people should not be fighting the battles of doctrine.
