Over 200 Improv Everywhere actors froze in place for five minutes in the Main Concourse of Grand Central Station Terminal. In doing so, Improv Everywhere asked New Yorkers to slow down and notice the world around them. They disrupted New Yorkers’ everyday routines, urging them to get out of their (seemingly impenetrable) productivity bubbles and to interact with others.
With this performance, Improv Everywhere disrupted the infamous New York hustle and bustle, commenting on the relentlessly fast-paced New York lifestyle. Grand Central Station – one of the central hubs for commuters in the city – is no exception to New York chaos. Hundreds of thousands of people rush through Grand Central everyday, running to catch trains or make it to their next meeting. Improv Everywhere questions this way of living, inviting people to take a moment in their day to stop, breathe, and just sit with themselves – with nothing to do and nowhere to go.
