A project by Thomas Heatherwick, an English designer, is currently underway on the West side of Manhattan. People have come to reference this structure as the “Honeycomb Sculpture” and it is composed of connected staircases. This architecture of interwoven elevations is not a building although it gives off that illusion. So, is it a space created in the middle of New York City for the purpose of interacting with others and the landscape as part of a redevelopment project. This architecture is about perspective, you in relation to the world; what is the experience when you start at the base of the structure looking up, looking down, passing people on the platforms between staircases. The Hudson Yard project is all about developing exchange and interconnection, this usable sculpture invites people to interact with each other, with strangers, and with the constructed landscape of the city itself.
