A ping pong table sets two people opposite each other at a table. There are a set of rules that the two people follow, which are fairly simple and easy to follow. The game of ping pong is widely known. You probably don’t need to even look up the rules. What happens when you change the space that this familiar game is played in? Gabriel Orozco doubled the space and placed a pond at the center in his piece Ping Pond Table. Participants are forced to come up with their own rules. A space of debate is created by simply taking a game and changing the scope at which it is played. At its core he is applying a new set of conditions to something that already has rules. He does this to game that is played for pure entertainment. But, what if we applied new conditions to something with more consequence that already has rules?
