Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, right? Yes, by health standards, however, no to people who can not afford three meals a day. Not to say that for some it isn’t their prioritized meal, but as the Black Panther Party discovered in 1969, it was not for many African American school children. The black nationalist party started a program to feed breakfast to school children for free. On one hand they were exposing the lack of government support for African Americans. On the other, they were also revealing to the rest of America the lack of equality between its people, through something as basic as the access to food. There program was able to feed hundreds of children which greatly impacted their well being. By reaching out to grocery stores and soliciting donations they were able to give African American children what they needed while also showing the rest of the country how impactful the lack of access to food has on child’s life.
